Chelsea women football club has announced Sonia Bompastor as the club’s new head coach.

Bompastor is the first woman to win the women’s champions league title both as a coach and a player.

Bompastor arrival comes just few days after she led Lyon to win champions league title against Spanish side Barcelona.

The French manager was regarded as the standout candidate among a shortlist of four put together by Chelsea general manager, Paul Green, as part recruitment for the replacement of the departing manager Emma Hayes.

It is understood that the club were impressed by Bompastor’s pedigree as a player and manager, her desire for the Job and her drive to win in a different environment and more challenging league.

“I hope to live up to Emma’s legacy and continue the work that she has done in recent years,” She said.

As a player, Bompastor won eight French league French league titles , four coupes de France feminine and two champions league titles.

As a coach with Lyon  she managed to secure three back to back league titles, one coupe de France and the 2022/2023,2023/2024 champions league titles.
