18-year old Jakes Nyanjom, the youngest son of renown Radio Presenter Joyce Gituro, recently landed an opportunity to host the drive show at Homeboyz Radio.

This is after the host, Kerry Martin, was transferred to Kiss FM, to host the breakfast show alongside Kwambox.

With the milestone, Jakes became the youngest Drive show host in the country.

Speaking in a recent interview, Jakes gave a glimpse of how he ended up in radio at such a young age, revealing that his career was influenced by his mother.

“A lot of me starting my career and even going to school kudecide kufanya mass communication was influenced by my mum. I used to see her doing radio in the morning kuna times nilikuwa namwambia niamushe twende na wewe. So alikuwa anasneak out of the house so that nisiamke aniambie nilijaribu kukuamsha am like najua ulihepa nilikuskia ukiamka, but it is alright,” he told Mpasho

“Every time I used to listen to her and I just used to be excited ‘that is my mum.’ and I was like na hii sauti yangu huwezi jaribu and I was like you know what, let me just give it a try,” he added.

Jakes says that he talked to his mother and they eventually settled on him doing Mass Communication. He joined Daystar university for his tertiary education where he undertook a Diploma before joining Radio Africa Group as an intern. He is currently doing a degree.
