Mike Sonko has broken silence after Carol Radull revealed that Conjestina Achieng’s mental issues had relapsed and was currently back in her Yala rural home, Siaya County.
In a lengthy statement, the former governor denied using Conjestina for PR, saying that he did his best to help her but her family failed him.
He is however willing to help her one more time before he surrenders completely.
“I did my best to help Conjee, but her family watered down my efforts. Fortunately, my heart is bigger than myself. At times, I fail to control it for the love I have for the people, especially the less fortunate, and I think this is the reason I initially gave Conjee the first, second, and now may be I will be forced to give a third and final chance again coz I’m always serious with all the cases we undertake and since we always document and account for the progress of all our sensitive cases,” Sonko said.
He also leaked audios, detailing why he let Conjestina go back to her rural home despite his earlier vow of never allowing her to live there again.
In one of the audio files, dated October 23, whereby Sonko was talking to Conjestina’s son Charlton, it is established that the former boxer was angered after missing a plane from Nairobi to Mombasa.
“Hafai kujam, kukosa ndege na mimi nilikuwa nimekuja Kortini na amekuja na basi one day hafai kujam. That day flights were full na mimi nilikuwa nakimbia kortini ama ningepata warrant of arrest,” Sonko said, adding that his team was forced to travel by SGR.
He was also worried that Conjestina had overstayed in her rural home and that she might go back to using bhang, hence the time, effort and money spend on her going to waste.
Charlton however admitted that Conjestina declined to go back to Sonko, because of the plane incident.
In the second audio, still a call to Charlton, Sonko lamented about Conjestina’s family not doing their part in ensuring that Conjestina returns under his care.
