The metrological department has highlighted that there would be heavy downpour this weekend. Isolated storms and heavy rainfall will be felt in parts of highlands east of rift valley including Nairobi.

Regions of south of the rift valley, parts of the coastal strip and south-eastern lowlands will also experience the heavy rainfall. The weather department added that parts of Isiolo and Samburu Counties may have similar experience from Friday to Monday.

Nairobi County government was recently forced to deploy emergency response teams to Githogoro and Mukuru areas to mitigate the damages caused by the heavy rains.

The heavy rains disrupted normalcy, engulfing streets,with some businesses forced to close temporarily.

In a statement on X, the county administration revealed that the Nairobi County response team is assessing the damages caused by the rains.

“Nairobi county rapid response team led by chief officer Bramwel Simiyu is currently carrying out a joint county wide assessment scope with Red cross to establish the extent of the impact of last evening’s heavy rains,”

Motorists and commuters found themselves stranded due to impassable roads which stopped transportation in different parts of the city.

The metrological department also warned the people from Western and Nyanza regions to move to higher areas to avoid the flooding of River Nzoia and River Nyando.

The Homabay governor Gladys Wanga urged his residents to ensure their safety this rainy season,she also distributed foodstuffs,mattress,blankets and mosquito nets to the affected families.

“My team and the county government of Homabay we will ensure every resident is safe,”she said.

The Kisumu county government led by Anyang’ Nyong’o held a meeting with the county response team to find possible ways on how to mitigate floods in the county, he also visited the affected families and urged them to move to near primary schools to wait until the rains to cease.
