Willy Paul

In a candid revelation, renowned musician Willy Paul gave his reasons for moving from the gospel sector to secular music sharing his experience within the gospel industry.

Willy Paul began by recounting the many struggles he faced in the gospel music industry leading to his departure in order for him to survive.

“Karibu nipoteze maisha yangu,” Willy Paul stated. He said this to show how his life was at risk if he had remained in the gospel scene.

He chose not to name names but insisted that those responsible for his suffering are well aware of their actions on what they did to him.

“I don’t want to point fingers, I don’t want to mention names but they know what they did to me.”

The musician also spoke of being manipulated and being made to look as the bad person which really affected his mental peace.

“Unajua these people walinipaint picture flani nikae like Mimi ndio nakuwanga mbaya. Walikuwa wananinyanyasa hadi inafika point sina food,” he revealed.

He further disclosed that those same people blocked all his avenues for his growth. “Wamenifungia door zote,” he added.

Despite the challenges, Willy Paul mentioned that his personal relationship with God remains intact.

“Salvation ni personal, relationship yangu na Mungu ni personal. Mimi najua vile naongea na yeye,” he affirmed.

The singer reflected on the environment he left behind and said that staying would have led to his death.

“Mimi kukaa kwa hiyo environment ingeniua,” Willy Paul stated. He revealed that his growing popularity and independence were seen as threats by some within the gospel community who feared losing control over him.

Even though it led to the birth of Willy Pozze (The secular artist) marking an important change in his life, his transition from gospel to secular left a very big gap in the gospel industry as no one does things as he did. He was the face of Kenyan modern gospel.

The bold decision he made was not in vain since it has been seen to bear fruits as his new song “Na Na Na” featuring Marioo became the most shazamed song in Tanzania.
