The family of popular Jamaican dancehall musician, Vybz Kartel has revealed that he is in dire need of an urgent surgery as his heart  condition worsened while in prison

Vybz Kartel, who has spent more than ten years incarcerated in a Jamaican jail has been suffering from Graves disease as per his diagnosis eight years ago.

According to his son Adidja Jahiem Palmer, who opened up in an interview with the weekend star, said that his condition has been deteriorating rapidly.

” It is really bad. His condition is not improving at all, mainly because of the circumstances he has been kept in and the lack of urgency in providing him with proper medical care.” he stated.

He said that despite taking medication, his father’s condition worsened which is beginning to be a major concern.

“He’s on medication but the condition is still worsening, so that’s another big problem. And because of that, it was recommended by the doctor to go to surgery so that’s a very big deal, very big deal,” he said.

His doctors feared that his condition could become fatal if he did not receive an urgent surgery as his health continued to deteriorate.

According to them, Kartel had been placed under a 23 hour solitary confinement at the time due to a suspected cell phone offence.

Isat Buchanan, a human rights lawyer, likened Kartel’s detention cell to an oven.

“He’s in a cell, and if you can picture a brick oven, because that’s how those cells are built, the ventilation is next to none,” Buchanan said.

An earlier medical report written by Dr. Karen Phillips, Kartel’s reputable private physician advised having surgery as soon as feasible.

The report went into detail about his thyroid condition battle. The initial report stated that it had not entered remission despite taking medication. Dr. Phillips advised having surgery right away.

Adidja Palmer alias Vybz Kartel has been detained in a Jamaican jail alongside three co-defendants for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, whose body was never located since 2011.
