Family of Veteran journalist Mutegi Njau has announced his passing.
According to them, he died peacefully around 7 pm on the evening of Thursday 27th 2024.
“Dad was a remarkable man whose generosity, sense of humour, and dedication to his career left a lasting impact on everyone he met,” read part of the family statement.
Mutegi’s family describe him as the cornerstone of the family and a cherished member in the community and say they have already began burial arrangements.
“We are currently in the process of arranging his funeral and will share the details within the next day or two. Your presence would be greatly appreciated as we gather to honour his memory,” the family said.
The family while in mourning have urged the members of the public to keep them in their prayers while appreciating their love and support.
“During this difficult time, please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. We are deeply grateful for your continued support and for the love and friendship you extended to Dad throughout his life,” the family added.
Njau before his passing was a resident analyst on Citizen Tv’s “Cheche” power breakfast show.
David Makali his former co-host on the morning show upon getting wind of his passing took to his socials to mourn and remember Njau.
“Devastated by the passing on of senior colleague, co-host and panelist Mutegi Njau. May your toil on this earth be rewarded and your memory last forever among those you mentored and gifted, or who savoured your goodness,” Makali said.
Njeri Rugene, Head of Deputy Presidential Communication Service was also among those who mourned the late veteran journalist.
“Mutegi Njau made an indelible mark in Kenya’s Journalism. He trained many of us. He has left a rich legacy. It is time to rest. Rest in Peace Senior,” Njeri Rugene said.
Njau’s media journey began in 1979 and apart from Citizen tv he has also worked with Kenya Broadcasting Corporation.
