Tokyo

Tokyo’s government is planning to launch its first-ever government-run dating app, which will promote marriage and boost the falling national birth rate.

Japan’s birth rate is so low that the administration of its largest city is taking drastic measures to assist singles in finding love, forming families, and having children.

The latest creative proposal from the Tokyo metropolitan administration is to play matchmaker by introducing its first-ever dating app. $1.28 million has already been set aside to make its debut by the end of the summer.

The government-sponsored enterprise, in contrast to other dating services, has strict guidelines to address a significant worry for people looking for love online: authenticity.

This is not an app for transgressions, one-night hookups, or fleeting relationships. Users will need to present evidence proving they are legally single to even register for the program.

Additionally, a letter indicating  willingness to get married will be signed by users.

Dating apps frequently ask for user’s income in Japan, but the Tokyo government app takes it a step further and requests an official tax certificate slip as verification of your yearly income.

Height, educational history, occupation, and other details are additional personal information that is needed. Finally, before you may be accepted, there will be an interview process.

Due to deeply ingrained family ideals, Japan is opposed to unwed pregnancies and is currently addressing societal reasons that are exacerbating the country’s low birth rate.

Deterrents to marriage and family life include high living costs that exceed income, poor career prospects, and corporate cultures that are incompatible with parents who work two jobs.

The difficulties are further exacerbated by society’s discomfort with wailing infants and kids having outside playtime.

Japan’s government is hoping that with the new dating app, this statistic will change for the better.
