The Kenyatta family led by former president Uhuru Kenyatta and his mother first Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta have put up an exquisite Place of worship for the faithful at Ichaweri, Gatundu their rural home.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family including Mama Ngina and the former first lady Maggie Kenyatta graced the intimate official opening of the church on Saturday 16/12/2023.
They joined worshippers in celebrating the anointing service of the new Baptist church wing.
The beautiful cathedral is along Kenyatta Road and is identified as St John Baptist Chapel. The place of worship sits on the foundation of the Ichaweri Chapel which was established by the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in 1971.
The St. John the Baptist Chapel is the 9th Church in the Arch-angel Mutomo Parish. The picturesque building is a site to behold, depicting an antique cathedral, with finesse wood finishings, and stained glass windows illustrating service to God and humanity.
Speaking to faithful, Mama Ngina explained that the family was fulfilling the founding father’s dream.
She stated that after her husband came back home from detention in Maralal he expressed his desire to build a place of worship for the community and that was why he built the foundation but unfortunately passed on before he completed his mission.
“He desired to have a church within the community where people could gather together and worship. He had just come from detention in Maralal, Samburu County,” she said.
The former president also addressed the congregation. He lauded the matriach for her determination and confidence in ensuring that the church was built to completion.
He however shyed away from speaking on Political matters and just based his speech on the event of the day.
