Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has denounced the use of tear gas, water cannons, and live bullets in residential neighbourhoods.
Passaris said that innocent individuals who were not present at the anti-government demonstrations on Tuesday, July 23rd 2024, had their rights infringed by the police.
The legislature of the Orange Democratic Movement went on to say that residential areas have to be protected from police brutality.
“Very sad. I lack words. Shame. Shame. Shame. Kenya Police Force you are out of line. It’s totally out of line. Shame on you. Residential areas should be out of bounds for water canons; tear gas and live ammunition. You have gone overboard. stop this abuse of power on innocent women and children,” she said.

Passaris revealed that she intended to question acting Inspector General Douglas Kanja in parliament over the reason for the police officers’ midnight deployment to residential areas.
“OMG. God Help Kenya. This is so wrong. The acting IG of the Kenya police should give a full report on what they are doing in these residential areas in the dead of the night. My prayers are with you, my people. I shall seek the answers in Bunge tomorrow. Stay safe. Stay strong,” she revealed.
On July 23, 2024, a portion of Nairobi demonstrators attempted to occupy the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by staging a protest along the outer route as part of the ongoing anti-government protests taking place around the nation.
The protesters and the police, who were using water cannons and tear gas to disperse the demonstrators, were engaged in an extended battle that trapped the residents of Pipeline Estate in Embakasi South Nairobi County.
