Flamboyant politician Mike Sonko is facing backlash after Carrol Radull reported that former female boxing champion Conjestina Achieng’ is back to her old state.
Radull, a renown sports journalist, visited Conjestina in her rural home in Yala on January 2 this year. She says that Conjestina has been at home for 2 months now and she has good and bad days.
“On 2nd Jan I visited my friend Congestina Achieng’ in her shags in Yala. She’s been there about 2 months and is back to her same lifestyle. 😔 She has good days and bad days. When I arrived she was having a bad day but her face lit up when she saw me and we chatted for a long time as best we could. I tried with my layman ability to gently encourage her to “clean up her act”,” Radull said.
She went on to admit that efforts to help Conjestina have proved futile.
“Many have tried to help her but none of us have succeeded in a long term solution to her predicament. I concede it’s out of my capability. What I can do though is be her friend. Visit her when I can. Call her Mum from time to time to check in on them,” Radull stated.
She further urged those visiting Yala to visit the former boxer, a move she says will bring her joy.
“If you are ever in the Yala area; drop in and say hey. She’ll love it. Do a bit of shopping for her Mum who looks after her. Mama is always so appreciative. And pray for the family,” the journalist said.

Conjestina is back to her rural home after working with Sonko’s security detail for some time, after rehabilitation.
Following the report from Radull, a section of netizens are now accusing the former Nairobi governor for using Conjestina for PR.
“Back again in the same environment .. after recovery from rehab a change in environment is very important. I thought Sonko gave something . kumbe ni PR,” an Instagram user said.
“Ule mkamba ilikuwa tu PR kumbe.. non sense,” another said.
