Kenya claimed the Africa Kabaddi 2024 Championship title on Saturday evening by defeating Uganda 44-23 in the final match held at Kasarani.
Kenya began the match with a strong performance, as James Kamweti executed several successful raids in Uganda’s half, giving Kenya a 20-13 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Kenya delivered an outstanding team effort, adding 24 points to their tally, while Uganda managed to score 10 points. The final score was 44-23 in favor of Kenya.
Kenya’s defense proved impenetrable for the Ugandan raiders, as every attempt to raid was met with excellent tackles from the Kenyan covers, ensuring all points remained with the home team.
This victory secures Kenya’s participation in the upcoming Kabaddi World Cup.
Kamweti, who was named man of the match for his impressive performance, boasted that Kenya are the African giants in Kabaddi following their commanding win.
Kenya’s captain, David Silishia, lauded the team for their performance and stated that they are already anticipating the World Cup.
“We are happy and we thank God for the win. It was a good team performance and we have gotten the results. We have a very good team. With proper support we can do better at the World Cup,” he said.
Kenya’s Samuel Wafula was named the tournament’s best defender. Their triumph in the Africa Kabaddi Championship adds to their recent achievement of securing the bronze medal at the Bangabandhu Cup in Bangladesh.
These successes highlight Kenya’s growing prominence in the global Kabaddi community. Captain David Silishia praised the team’s performance and expressed excitement about their prospects at the upcoming World Cup, emphasizing Kenya’s determination to excel internationally.
This momentum solidifies Kenya’s position as a force to be reckoned with in Kabaddi worldwide.
