Officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF)  assisted a pregnant woman to safely deliver a baby on the road after hours of labour in Wajir County.

In a statement  dated Saturday, March 23, 2024, KDF revealed that officers who were under Close Operations from Gherille were on patrol when they found Salma Osman who is said to have been in labour for long hours.

“KDF troops under Close Operations from Gherille while on patrol in the area came to the aid of a pregnant woman who had been in labour for hours,” the statement read in part.

With no medical facilities near the place they found her, the officers took initiative and helped the lady give birth.

Salma gave birth to a healthy boy.

“The patrol medics managed to facilitate a safe delivery to a healthy baby boy.”

The officers then took her and her baby to a neighbouring medical facility for proper checkup to ascertain the newborn’s and his mother’s wellbeing.

“The mother, Salma Osman, was handed her healthy baby boy. The mother and the newborn were later taken to Gherille Health facility for postnatal care and vaccination,” KDF further stated.

The military additionally gave foodstuff to the family of the woman.

“The patrol further in line with the Kenyan tradition of receiving a newborn gave a basket of edibles to the family. We wish the mother and baby good health,” KDF stated.

In a similar account, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in May 2023, soldiers deployed to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) came to the aid of an expectant mother by helping her deliver her baby safely.
