Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has decided to come to the rescue of Ian Njoroge, the driver who assaulted a traffic police officer on Monday.
This is after the mother to Njoroge reached the former county boss asking him to intervene as her son is just a college student.
Writing on X, Sonko stated that even though he always wants justice, he felt for the mother’s cry and decided to be of assistance.
“ONLY A PARENT UNDERSTANDS CHILDBIRTH PAINS. After an incident where a motorist Ian Njoroge attacked a traffic police officer, yesterday I received a distress call from the mother of the said motorist, asking me to intervene. Her son is a first-year student at the Technical University of Kenya,” Sonko wrote.
Sonko says he only take the initiative to ask for forgiveness on behalf of Ian’s family because he understands the pain they are in now.
He also revealed that the victim police officer was once his bodyguard while he was a member of parliament.
“As a parent, I could also feel her pain. So, I took the initiative to contact the assaulted officer who was once my bodyguard when I was an Mp and humbly requested for forgiveness.”

However, the former governor hinted that his pleading for forgiveness went well and that the police officer is willing to forgive the motorist.
“Fortunately, the officer has accepted the family’s apology and is willing to forgive Ian,” He added.
Mike Sonko had earlier taken to X saying Ian was arrested and that he expects Jacob Ogendo (victim officer) to get justice.
“The guy who assaulted a traffic officer while on duty has been identified as Ian Njoroge, a criminal gang leader in Mwiki who has more than 10 pending cases in court. He was arrested last night. May the Officer Jacob Ogendo get justice.”
