Renowned Kenyan Bongo artist, Otile Brown, recently took to social media to pay tribute to the life of TikTok sensation Brian Chira, who tragically lost his life in a road accident last Saturday.
In a heartfelt Instagram post featuring Chira’s image, Otile Brown captioned, “Rest easy young king…this life can get crazy sometimes… I can only try to understand. Till we meet again.”
During a live video, Otile Brown honored Chira by singing “One Call Away,” a song reportedly cherished by Chira. Expressing his condolences, Otile remarked, “I just wanna say this, may his soul rest in peace. Hayo ndio maisha Jamaa umenielewa, leo ni yeye anaondoka kesho ni sisi mzee.” (“Such is life, brother, you understand me; today it’s him leaving, tomorrow it could be us, my friend.”)
Acknowledging his limited personal connection with Chira, Otile Brown emphasized the importance of artists coming together to support Chira’s final moments, urging followers to keep him informed about funeral arrangements.
He stated, “Y’all keep us posted on this blogs, hatujui kwao ni sehemu gani but I think it could be only right if we pull up over there just to show love to the guy.” (“Keep us informed on these platforms; we don’t know where his home is, but it would be appropriate if we showed up to pay our respects.”)
However, Otile’s message of support sparked mixed reactions, with some questioning the sincerity of posthumous praise. One commenter noted, “Perfect definition of ‘people will always say good things about you, you’ll have to die first though, mate!!'” While another remarked, “Acting crazily when someone is already dead but you didn’t try to know him when he was alive LMFAO.”
