Harambee starlets and Tanzanian club Simba queens Corazone Aquino has stressed on the importance of continued support to women’s football in the country.
Aquino says their is a bright future for Harambee starlets and women’s football in general given the strides that have been made recently.
Her sentiments came after the Kenya U17 junior starlets inched closer to sealing qualification to the world cup slated for the Dominican Republic later this year after beating Ethiopia 3-0 on Sunday at Ulinzi complex.
If the team manages to beat Burundi in the final round of qualifiers, then Mildred Cheche’s charges will be the first Kenyan football team to feature in the world cup.
“I urge fans to keep supporting women’s football for its potential prosperity. I believe there is a day that the Harambee starlets will play in the world cup. Most likely that would happen before men’s achieve that”, Aquino said.
Reacting to junior starlet’s performance against Ethiopia in round three of the world cup qualifiers, Aquino was satisfied with fan attendance in the return leg played yesterday .
“Fans coming today was a big positive for the players. They boosted the morale of players and played their part in delivering the win” Aquino stated.
With women’s football facing some challenges, Aquino has some encouragement for the upcoming footballers.
” Keep pushing and working hard. The future is bright. Be disciplined, put God ahead and never give up”, she offered.
