Four bodies of suspected victims of floods have been retrieved from Mathare River following heavy rains witnessed in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Starehe Sub-county Police Commander Fred Abuga the four were two men and two women. He continues to say that the six other people remain unaccounted for as a search operation continues in Mathare.
Over six people were reported missing on Wednesday morning following the heavy downpour that hit the city and its environs last evening. The joint rescue mission is being led by Nairobi County Government and the Kenya Red Cross.
“Following other rescue operations in Mathare, Githurai 45 and other places in Nairobi, we have also rescued 96 people at Graceland in Athi River following yesterday night’s heavy downpour. This was made possible through the collaborative efforts of a multi-agency rescue team and community members.” a statement by Kenya Red Cross read.

Earlier today, 18 people, including 11 adults and 7 children, were rescued by Kenya Red Cross Action Team in Mradi, Mathare 4A, after they were left stranded due to floodwaters caused by heavy rains last night in Nairobi.
Various parts of Nairobi experienced heavy rainfall overnight, resulting in flash floods in areas such as Mukuru, Mathare, Huruma, Ruaraka, Baba Dogo, Bosnia, Umoja 3, Choka, Njiru, Ruai, Utawala, Githurai, Kahawa, Eastern Bypass, Kinoo, Kijabe, Limuru, Ruiru, Graceland, Joska, Kaswito, Kicheko, Mangili, Kenyatta Road, Juja, Kitengela, and Magadi.
