1 person has survived a Tuesday Morning grisly road accident at Ngata area in Nakuru on the Nakuru- Eldoret highway.
The accident occurred after a van ferrying people to Kisii was involved in a head on collision with a lorry ramming into another stalled truck along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway at around 5:30 a.m killing at least eight people.
According to police the survivor who was a woman sustained injuries to her leg and was rushed to the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses who were among the first responders said they retrieved bodies of six adults and two children, victims of the accident who died on the spot.
The private Toyota van was ferrying over 15 people to Kisii for an event, according to a preliminary report by the police.
The lorry coming from Eldoret is reported to have lost it’s breaks hitting the oncoming Toyota van causing it ram into the stalled truck that is reported to have been there for three days.
County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed the incident and said that efforts to find the driver of the lorry who escaped after the accident are underway.
Ndanyi said the bodies of the deceased have been moved to Nakuru Annex Funeral home.
This comes at a time when six other people have been killed and several injured in another fatal accident happened at Duka Moja along the busy Kericho-Nakuru highway, a few Kilometers from Kericho town on Monday evening.
The 7.30pm incident happened when a Toyota Probox collided head-on with a lorry which was on the opposite side. Six passengers in the private vehicle died on the spot while one was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
The two accidents have increased the number of the fatalities experienced this week alone to road accidents to at least 14.
