Authorities in Nyanza have initiated a manhunt for the driver of an Easy Coach bus involved in a tragic accident near Kisumu, resulting in the death of a student from Chavakali High School. The incident, which occurred on Monday night, April 1, at the Coptic Roundabout near Mamboleo along the Kakamega-Kisumu Highway, has prompted an urgent investigation.

According to reports from the police, the bus driver lost control while navigating the roundabout, leading to a collision with the guardrails and subsequently overturning. The bus, which was en route from Mbale to Nairobi, ultimately fell onto its left side, resulting in the fatality of one student and leaving several others injured, with two sustaining serious injuries.

Easy Coach, in a statement addressing the incident, expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate turn of events. The company confirmed that the bus was transporting students from Chavakali High School to Nairobi for the April holidays. Subsequent investigations will aim to ascertain the circumstances leading up to the accident and determine any negligence or wrongdoing on the part of the driver.

“We regret to confirm an unfortunate incident last night at Kisumu-Mamboleo where one of our Nairobi-bound buses transporting students from Chavakali Boys High School lost control and overturned,” read the statement issued by Easy Coach. “One student succumbed to the injuries; 22 students were admitted to St. Monica Hospital and discharged; and three students were admitted to Avenue Hospital.”

The tragic accident has cast a shadow over the school community and raised concerns about road safety measures along the Kakamega-Kisumu Highway. As investigations unfold, authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the Easy Coach driver to come forward and assist in the ongoing search efforts.
