Due to the various protests seen country wide various X activists including Crazy Nairobian, also known as Billy The Goat, have been arrested.
Many of these activists have used their social platforms to create awareness on the contested Finance Bill 2024. Many are speculating that the move have them arrested is aimed at taming them .
Earlier today various influencer went live on X, efforts to gain information on the possible whereabouts of Crazy Nairobian.
“Last night we were told that Billy is at Muthaiga police station it is sad to say that crazy Nairobian is not here at Muthaiga police Station where is he ????# freeBilly,” Sir Rap a lot wrote.
So far, thousands of Twitter are demanding to know Billy’s whereabouts, calling for his freedom
In a statement, Itumbi revealed that the activist is under arrest for allegedly sharing threatening content.
“I have checked with Police why Crazy Nairobian, Billy, is under arrest. I understand he sent threatening message/s. I get hundreds of those myself, & they do not bother me. But well, it is a crime. I am unable to intervene, though I strongly disagree. I will reach out to the complainant to see if he/she can withdraw.
“That said, when they used to arrest me, I used the court platform to argue TRUTH and FACTS. I am of the view that INSULTS are part of free speech. Insulting and criticing public servants should not be treated as a crime. I will leave the jury to decide if sending threatening messages should be treated as a crime. I would personally not bother report to police, but that I leave to the courts to determine.”
“I also firmly hold that Public Servants should grow a THICK SKIN. Some of these arrests based on your complaints are unnecessary. They may not be ILLEGAL, but they are sincerely STUPID!” he further wrote.
Through platforms like TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, a wave of discontent has boiled over from social media onto the streets, forcing the government to backtrack on some proposals in the controversial 2024 Finance Bill.
The power of social media has surprised the government on how global the tweet reject finance bill has gained attention globally. Various activists have since shown courage by stating that they will not be tamed or intimidated by the arrest move being done terming it as unconstitutional.
