Former English Premier league side Newcastle and Burundi national team star Gael Bigirimana is eagerly waiting his first encounter with Harambee Stars.
Bigirimana is anticipating for a competitive game as Kenya will be hosting Burundi on Friday 7th at Bingu Stadium in Malawi.
Bigirimana joined Burundi national team on 2015 and he is regarded as one of the most successful Midfielders from the CECAFA region.
Since joining the Burundi national team, Bigirimana has never faced Harambee Stars either in a friendly or competitive match.
There is a high possibility of Bigirimana getting a taste of what match a pitting Kenya against Burundi feels like, as the two nations will play against each other on Friday in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. As the experienced Midfielder is the Swallows squad.
Bigirimana admits that his knowledge about Harambee Stars team and players is modest, but he expects a fiercely contested affair.
“I have never interacted with the currently Kenyan national team players, but at least I know several of their members plays abroad. I have never been involved in a game against Kenya but I have gathered sufficient information from my teammates on the kind of players we will play against. I expect the game to be very competitive,” He said.
The last time the two countries met Kenya won 1-0, during the CECAFA 2017 senior challenge semi final that took place in Moi stadium in Kisumu.
