David Kioko, the boyfriend of the slain Mount Kenya University student Faith Musembi, has been detained in a bid to facilitate additional information into the murder case.
Kioko, 25 years old, is the primary suspect in the killing of the university student whose lifeless body was found in her leased room at Pilot Estate on May 8, 2024.
He was detained after preliminary investigations revealed that infidelity could have been the main cause of the murder.
Both the suspect and the victim are from Machakos County.
The first-year student, who was eight months pregnant, was found dead in her rented room last week by her father.
The terrible revelation had shocked the family, with panicked pleas for fast justice resonating through Machakos, Thika, and beyond.
Faith’s parents, who had been crushed by the loss of their daughter and unborn grandchild, demanded justice.
Appearing before the Thika chief magistrate Philip Mutua on Tuesday, the investigating officer Oscar Limo requested for a 21-day detention period for the accused to complete the investigations into the murder.
He also wanted to examine the suspect’s mental state while gathering witness accounts.
Limo continued, saying that the deceased’s cell phone is still being sought for by authorities and will thereafter undergo forensic examination.
Police have successfully discovered the deceased’s SIM card, which was used to demand a ransom from her parents prior to her murder.
The Thika Law Courts has granted police’s request to detain the main suspect in the brutal murder of 19-year-old Mount Kenya University student Faith Musembi.
The case will be mentioned on 28th May, 2024.
