Tanzanian musician Vanessa Mdee, who currently resides in Georgia, Atlanta, with her husband Rotimi and their two children, has been focusing on her salvation, since she quit the music industry.
Vanessa however did not opt to join the gospel music industry after quitting the secular world.
In a recent interview with a Tanzanian media house, she explained why she is yet to sing any gospel songs despite her spiritual journey.
“Gospel music is a calling. Unaeza ukatumbukia huko ukakuta mambo si mambo. Especially for us who already did secular music, you can go there and be used for goals that don’t please God. I don’t want to be punished by God for such. When God gives me an acceptance, I will do it on His call. Music is a big part of my life, I love music and songwriting but on becoming a gospel singer, you have to be called,” she said.
The mother of two noted that her music life used to affect her spiritual life, having been saved at the tender age of 8 years while studying at a primary school in Kenya.
“Music life affects spiritual life a lot especially if you don’t take time to read the word of God. The enemy uses a lot of things to attack God’s children. If God planned a job for you for His glory, you will receive a lot of attacks. Mine used to come through the music industry. When I was doing music, I wasn’t close with God,” she explained.
