Kenyans have reacted negatively to an endorsement by renown Digital creator Mungai Eve.
On Tuesday, Eve took to her various social media channel, to advertise a dating app known as Habari chat.
“This love season don’t be lonely habarichat helps you discover your perfect match, just a few meters away, lets make our paths intersect and create a love story worth walking for,” she stated.
Her words were accompanied by her video and a man that she met through the dating app. The video captured Eve, who is presumed single, at home alone and unaware of what she should eat. She then picks her phone and visits the dating site. She goes through different profiles and settles on one man.
They then engage in a conversation with the man requesting to take Eve for a dinner date. The man then picks an elegantly dressed Eve at her apartment and they head to a restaurant.
Kenyans are however against such dating sites because of the recent cases where women have been murdered in short stay rental apartments.
The notable cases are those of Starlet Wahu, who was murdered in South B by John Matara and JKUAT student Rita Waeni, whose dismembered body was found at an Airbnb in Roysambu.
Below are some of the comments of those who came across Eve’s advertisement.
“The next day you are on the news after being dismembered in an Airbnb.”
“This apps zinapply tu abroad Kenya unakutana na kina Matara.”
“Ladies don’t try this habari chat ni ya kina John Matara”
“You can’t search strangers online, let love find me.”
Others however defended her saying that people should stop being backwood and embrace technology.
“Stop being backward. Move with technology. Sahi watu hawapatani kwa ksiagi ama hardware ukinunua jembe and who said you have to sleep together? There is a difference between dating and hook up,” one said.
