Murder suspect Kelvin Kang’ethe has been arrested near Ngong Police station by a contingent of police officers on Tuesday night, few minutes past 10pm.

It is reported that senior police officers at the police station received a tip off from the locals about his whereabouts. They tracked him down leading to his arrest.

Kang’ethe is currently being held at Ngong police station and is set to be transferred to the DCI headquarters. His family members confirmed the arrest, stating that he was taken into custody at the Ngong police station on Tuesday night under tight security.

Nairobi police commander Adamson Bungei also confirmed the re- arrest of the murder suspect

“We have re-arrested him. He is under police custody, and we thank all that helped in this,” he said.

A number of detectives had been tasked to hunt for Kang’ethe for possible arraignment and extradition in the US after he vanished from Muthaiga police station last week on February 7 at around 5:30pm . He escaped after a man believed to be his lawyer visited him.

The man identified as John Maina Ndegwa arrived at the station saying that he wanted to talk to Kang’ethe who is his client.

Officers on duty left them alone but a few minutes later, the fugitive escaped.  He ran towards Thika Road with police chasing him down, but their efforts were proven futile. After his escape police laid a man hunt on him until his arrest yesternight.

Kang’the, 40, is wanted in the US for the murder of 31-year old Margaret Mbitu, who is said to have been his girlfriend. The incident is believed to have occurred on October 31, 2023.

After the murder, he dumped her body in  car at Logan airport in Boston before fleeing
