After a series of street protests organized by Gen Z, Ruto sent home his entire Cabinet on July 11th, with the exception of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
Many young Kenyans took to the streets to protest the imposition of unpopular taxes under the controversial Finance Bill, 2024, which the President subsequently withdrew.
But the Generation Z continued applying pressure to the government, demanding for accountability and the removal of those they believed were unqualified to serve in public office.
On Friday 19th July 2024,President Ruto unveiled the new-look 11-member Cabinet that comprised six former CSs he had fired.
He said that after lengthy discussions on two fundamental issues, he decided on the new team.
Other than Tuya, other former CSs Ruto nominated back to Cabinet are Aden Duale Defence); Kithure Kindiki (Interior); Davis Chirchir (Transport and Roads) and Alice Wahome (Public Works and Housing).
