Tension remains high in Nasukuro, Baringo County, following a banditry attack that left two people dead and one seriously injured.

50 heads of livestock were stolen, with over 300 residents fleeing their homes.

Residents led by area MCA Paul Lelkisui condemned the attack, saying attacks have continued despite the heavy presence of security personnel.

“We condemn this attack in the strongest terms possible. As a community we are worried that attacks continue yet we have a lot of security officers here,” he said.

Speaking to the press, he maintained that the area where the attack took place belong to them and have the right to graze their livestock there.

Lelkisui lamented that the attack curtails peace efforts in the area, stating that learning activities have also been greatly affected in the area.

“We have suffered a lot and we have no peace here. An attack like this curtails efforts of addressing the insecurity menace here. We can’t allow this to continue,” added Lelkisui.

The residents now want perpetrators, whom they say come from Baringo East, brought to book and a lasting solution sought, adding that security is their constitutional right.

Many lives have been lost and hundreds of livestock stolen in banditry attacks in the region, as government launch a joint operation to end the problem.
