Police in Homa Bay county have launched a manhunt for retired primary school teacher accused of molesting a 7 year-old grade three pupil.
The suspect currently at large is reported to have been molesting the minor in his house since last year.
Reporting the matter to assistant chief of Kayoo sub location the boy’s mother revealed that the suspect had warned the minor not to tell on him.
According to the chief Margaret Ager, the teacher has been luring the Grade 3 boy with things such as sweets and sometimes gave the young boy Ksh10 so as to perform the indecent act on him.
“The boy’s mother reported the matter in my office after realizing that the boy had some pain in his backside with the boy confessing to have been molested three times,” she said.
Speaking to the media, Ager revealed that the boy has been taken to hospital where medical officers have confirmed that the boy had been molested.
“The boy was taken to a health facility where medics confirmed that he had been sodomised,” Ager said.
Confirming the incident, Rachuonyo North sub-county police commander Lydia Parteiyie stated that she received a report indicating that the suspect had been sodomising the minor since last year, however, noting that the suspect fled to an unknown destination after learning that the matter had been reported to the police.
“The suspect ran away after he realized the incident had been reported to us. We are looking for him to ensure legal action is taken against him,” Parteiyie said.
She however urged parents to be vigilant and keen on monitoring the movement of their children to prevent them from encountering people with ill intentions.
“Let people be responsible in society to avoid destroying the lives of other people’s children,” Parteiyie added.
The community, while grappling with disbelief and anger, has rallied in support of the boy and his mother, condemning the act and calling for swift justice. The boy, in his resilience, has taken the brave step of recording a statement and filling out a P3 form, a critical piece of evidence for the impending legal battle.
