Employees of Standard Media Group Radio department have threatened to boycott work from July 3, 2024 over unpaid salaries.
Following a meeting on Friday June 28, radio presenters and journalists at Radio Maisha, Spice FM, Berur FM and Vybez Radio lamented that they have been receiving irregular salaries despite promises from their employer.
“The matter of unpaid regular salary and mounting arrears as you’re aware is one of urgency. As a department – we need to have this matter addressed,” the staff informed Standard Group’s Management in a letter.
The letter reveals that they have not been paid salaries from between June to August 2023 and February to June 2024. They are demanding to be paid their June salary fully by July 2, and the same to be consistent moving forward.
Also, acknowledging the tough times that the media house is going through, the team, wants their employer to pay them 30% of the arrears every month until they are cleared.
“Kindly note that in the event of non-payment as proposed above, all programming will be off air on July 3 on all four radio stations until our plight is addressed and a commitment from your end is issued in writing,” the team stated.
They further indicated that they would be meeting with the management on July 4.
