DP Rigathi Gachagua has broken silence on plans to impeach him by a section of Members of Parliament drawn from the ruling party Kenya Kwanza.
In the recent days, his allies have claimed there’s a plot to kick him out of office, over his call for Mt. Kenya Unity.This comes at a time 50 MPs from Central Kenya have since thrown their weight behind Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as the region’s leader.
Speaking at Marikiti in Nairobi on Friday, Gachagua demanded for respect, telling those planning hsi impeachment not to try him.
“We willingly supported president William Ruto. We loved him. Those planning that matter don’t try us. Don’t tell us we don’t matter. Respect us, people want their leader to be respected. I want to tell those insulting Rigathi Gachagua that you are not insulting Gachagua but the people that elected you,” he said
“They’re threatening me that they will mobilize MPs to kick me out and install their puppet. They have given these MPs money to sell me fear,” the second in command further said.
“I was elected by Kenyans and they are the ones to remove me from my seat when the time comes.”
About the issue of relocating Marikiti traders, Gachagua told Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to stop the plans.
“When we were campaigning at Wakulima market, there were a lot of people and no one had a problem after receiving many votes, they are now claiming that there is a congestion problem in the CBD. Why didn’t they point that out during the campaign period,” the DP said.
“People are not potatoes to be moved like that,” he said.
He was accompanied by his allies who used the opportunity to defend him.
“Kimani Ichung’wah insults DP Gachagua while he is standing next to the President and the President does not reprimand him,” said Embakasi North MP James Gakuya.
Starehe MP Amos Mwago on the other hand questioned President William Ruto why he was running away from the political deal with Gachagua, yet he had promised not to mistreat his deputy like his former boss Uhuru Kenyatta.
