People who have been actively opposing the Finance bill and participating in nationwide rallies have been kidnapped by the police.
Attorneys claim that the anti-tax demonstrators in Kenya who were kidnapped during the past week as a result of a crackdown are traumatised.
An operation purportedly led by an intelligence police team resulted in the apprehension of approximately thirty-five individuals who are believed to have spearheaded the protests against the finance bill, which has since been withdrawn.
Although the majority of those kidnapped have subsequently been freed, the Law Society of Kenya has informed BBC 10 that other activists remain unaccounted for.
Certain people recounted harrowing encounters they had in dimly lit rooms when their phones and laptops were seized.
Odhiambo stated, “Most of them are visibly shaken and they do not want to talk.”
They also kidnapped Alfred Keter, the former MP for Nandi Hills, on Sunday afternoon as he was leaving his Lavington church in front of his family.
Later, the DCI refuted reports that the former MP had been kidnapped and stated that National Police Service agents had taken him into custody.
“Contrary to the misinformation circulating on social media on the alleged abduction of Hon Alfred Keter by unknown men, this is to confirm that Hon Keter was arrested earlier today by NPS Officers for Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms and Incitement to Violence,” DCI said.
