Popular Genge Musician, Mejja declared that he will join the youth in the upcoming demonstrations against the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Taking to his Instagram page, he wrote that he was unable to show up on Thursday due to an unavoidable duties with his child but promised to show up on Tuesday.

He said that his presence would be to pay homage to the fallen youth, Rex, who was shot and killed by the police on Thursday evening when heading home after protesting against the Finance Bill.

” Jana sikuweza juu ya mtoi but Tuesday 25th ni kitambi na teargas. Damu ya Rex haiendi hivo RIP ni mgenge na mbogi,” he said.

Mejja is among the many celebritries who openly reject the finance bill that was forced upon Kenyans by the ruling  government.

On Thursday, many Kenyan celebrities, influencers and content creators took to the streets to demonstrate against the Finance Bill.

A number of well-known people were spotted on the streets, including actress Patricia Kihoro, comedian Mwalimu Rachel, media personalities Willis Raburu, Amina Abdi, musician Charisma, who gained notoriety as a member of the band Le Band, Nadia Mukami, who was spotted with Arrow Bwoy, Juliani, and Murugi Munyi, a creator of digital content who was tear-gassed and arrested.

Singer-songwriter Atemi Oyungu was also present, and she posted on social media about her encounters with the police, accusing them of violating their constitutional right to picket.

“Hiding and coming out only to be teargassed again. These people could have just allowed us to walk. We weren’t destroying property. We had given ample notice. Get my second dose of teargas after this!” she said.

Mulamwah, a well-known comedian and content creator, made a lasting impression on both demonstrators and internet users by giving tea and mandazis to protestors, exemplifying the spirit of unity.

Along with other Kenyans, gospel performer Reuben Kigame demonstrated his opposition to Finance Bill 2024 in the streets.

Kigame declared on Thursday, June 20, that he will be joining other demonstrators in the streets to oppose the Finance Bill 2024, which he believes contains a plan to raise the tax on wheelchairs.
