An International Women’s Day summit is ongoing at the Capital Club in Nairobi hosted by Radio Africa.
The summit dubbed Banking on the Future of women, is aiming to provide women with tools, resources, and opportunities to enhance their economic empowerment and financial independence.
In connection to this year’s theme Radio Africa focuses on crucial areas where investing in women plays a pivotal role in accelerating progress.
In attendance is Dr Lucy Mathenge, who is the programme specialist governance at the UN women- Kenya, Sera Kitusya, CEO of Belva Group, Anita Chege who is the GM for innovation HF, Zuhura Ogeda Odhiambo who is the MSK chair-CEO and Funder at MRSA, Imelda Ngunzu, director global partnerships and segments innovation Mastercard.
The ones in attendance have access to expert speakers and panelists who are providing valuable insights, knowledge, and strategies for personal and professional growth.
In another commemoration of the day, in a profound message, Kanu chairman Gideon Moi honoured the exceptional achievements of women across all walks of life.
“In challenging times, grassroots women have remained stoic in the pursuit of their aspirations. In their small but significant ways, they are toiling with one collective dream: a nation where the safety, security, and freedom of women are guaranteed while equality, opportunities, and a fair shot at prosperity take centre stage in our development.” he said.
Moi in his message expressed his full support for the proposals to entrench the two-thirds gender principle as enshrined in the constitution and outlined in the National Association of Development Companies (Nadco) report.
“It is our firm belief that sustainable development cannot be achieved if almost half of our population – women – continues to lag. We stand united in emphasizing that true progress necessitates the active inclusion and participation of all,” he said.
In the spirit of celebrating the International Women’s Day, Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru in her message said, j “within every woman is the unstoppable power to create, nurture and transform. ”
Through her message she urged women celebrate the gains made within the years aiming at adopting viable ways aimed at promoting inclusivity and women empowerment.
International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and girls.
The day while making a call to action for strengthening gender equality and accelerating women’s empowerment also addresses pertinent issues on women such as; gender equality, reproductive rights, violence and abuse against women, discrimination based on sex, exclusion, women’s role in society among others.
