In his recent address, Karungo Wa Thang’wa, the senator of Kiambu County, has urged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, popularly known as Riggy G, to adopt a more modern approach in reaching out to Generation Z by joining TikTok and going live on the platform.

“Riggy G ukitaka kuongea na Gen Z na pia Rais afanye hivyo. We ingia TikTok, uende live useme Gen Z kujeni tuongee,” Thang’wa advised. He emphasized the importance of engaging with the younger generation in a manner that resonates with them, highlighting TikTok as a crucial platform for this interaction since most of young people have TikTok accounts.

Thang’wa explained that by going live on TikTok, both the Deputy President and President would create an opportunity for Gen Z to voice their issues directly.

“Watakuongelesha, watakuambia kila kitu na watakuambia mahali wanataka na mahali wangetaka kuenda,” he said, stressing the significance of understanding the concerns of the young people. This is an effort to address the nationwide protest that started with the protests against “The Finance Bill 2024.”

Addressing the President directly, Thang’wa stated, “Mimi nataka kumwomba raisi sababu raisi na Deputy president wote tunawaunga mikono. Mimi nataka kuomba kama kijana yake yule mdogo, vile alisikiliza Gen Zs asikilize Riggy G.”

He showed his support for the current leadership and urged the President to listen to his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua just like he listened to the Gen Zs voices and withdrew finance bill 2024.

Thang’wa’s suggestion to use digital platforms to foster a more direct and meaningful dialogue between the nation’s leaders and its young people stands out as a method that promises to be effective for the dialogue between the Gen Zs and the president to reach a peaceful stance.

However, the suggestion was met with different reactions from the public. Some said it was a good approach while others were against it.

“True but usijaribu kufungua comment section.”

“They are suddenly turning sweet so that they aren’t dissolved, all these politicians should go home. This guy is just talking nothing.”

Another person urged for the politicians to talk for themselves without involving the Gen Zs all the time.

“Politicians watoe Gen Zs Kwa midomo yao, wajitetee kivyao.”
