Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has supported Kenyan youths saying that they are doing a good job after holding nationwide protests against the Finance Bill 2024.
The party leader declared his support for Kenyans to fight for economic freedom.
Taking the comment to his Twitter account he wrote Keep making us proud, “Kenyan youths, you’re doing an amazing job.”
Earlier this week In a press statement on June 24, EFF said it stands firmly for economic freedom and the establishment of robust social welfare safety nets.
“We stand in solidarity with the people of Kenya who are bravely protesting against the exploitative legislation that seeks to impose severe tax,” Malema stated.
EFF said the protests are a clear indication that Kenyans are rejecting policies that exacerbate their suffering and demanding a government that serves their well-being.
Tuesday’s demonstrations culminated in violent scenes as crowds broke through police lines and breached Parliament buildings in Nairobi .
The scenes from the demonstrations on Tuesday where several people got killed and others injured triggered waves of concern world wide .In a statement on Wednesday, EFF termed the use of live ammunition on unarmed citizens by Kenyan police as unacceptable and a violation of human rights.
“Instead of de-escalating the conflict, the Kenyan government chose to exacerbate it by deploying police, and have also chosen to deploy the army under the guise of addressing a ‘security emergency’,” EFF said.
Malema’s Ugandan counterpart Bobi Wine has also expressed solidarity with the youthful protesters.
“Power to you the young people of Kenya. You are speaking up and your voices are being heard far beyond the Kenyan borders. We hope your leaders too are listening! We continue to stand in solidarity with you,” the opposition leader tweeted.
The anti-finance bill protests kicked off last week on Tuesday, as many Kenyans took to the streets to reject the bill.
The protestors, who were mainly the young generation, have again planned a series of protests this week as they oppose the proposed tax measures.
