Rigathi Gachagua has responded to his historic impeachment by sharing a Bible verse.
After the results of the of how MPs voted on his impeachment, the embattled politician took to social media with a word of encouragement from Thessalonians 5: 18 which states; “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” and Jeremiah 30:19 that says; “From them will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing. I will add to their numbers, and they will not be decreased; I will bring them honor, and they will not be disdained.”
He concluded his post with a simple, “It is well.”
281 MPs voted Yes to remove the second in command from office on Tuesday night.
Grounds that formed his impeachment include unlawful acquisition of property in Nyeri, Kilifi, Nairobi and Nyandarua using taxpayers’ money, insurbodination of the president by publicly contradicting the policies of the president’s policy statements and cabinet pronouncements and violation of articles 147, 148,174,186 and 189 which speak to his conduct and responsibility as the principal assistant to the Preside
Other accusations are; Attacking High Court judge and the National Intelligence Service publicly disregarding the oath of office he took. undermining devolution among others.
Appearing before the National Assembly to defend himself against the 11 charges that were preferred by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, Gachagua urged MPs to make the right decision.
“Look, reflect and apply your conscience and make the right decision. I have tremendous respect for the National Assembly and your ability and capacity to make the right decision,” Gachagua said.
His impeachment will now move to the Senate after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula formally informs his Senate Counterpart Amason Kingi within two days.
