Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba stood in solidarity with Rigathi Gachagua from the time when rumours surfaced about his planned impeachment to when the motion was passed in parliament on Tuesday night.

Wamuchomba is among the 44 MPs who voted to save the embattled second in command. 281 others supported his impeachment as one member preferred to abstain from voting.

The Githunguri MP has explained why she chose to stick with Gachagua.

“I voted no because I wanted Gachagua to continue working for Kenyans. He should be celebrated for being the one who tells Kenyans the truth; about Adani, abductions, demolitions, extra-judicial killings and many truths he has told us,” she said.

Wamuchomba was however disappointed with the results of the impeachment, accusing the parliament of being partisan. According to her, the speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula did not consider reports from public participation that was organised last week.

“I am very disappointed as an MP. I saw a partisan parliament that does not want to discuss facts but rumours and gossip. Kenyans came out during public participation filled out many forms and said what they wanted but the speaker ignored that and he has not considered any of the reports brought back to parliament from the public participation,” she said.

“I feel like Kenyans have been taken for granted. Why did we waste a lot of money and time to call people for public participation? I thought the speaker would announce how many people voted No or yes during the process. I feel embarrassed as a Member of parliament if this is how we do serious proceedings,” she added.
