The father of Sultana actress Winnie Bwire Ndubi has said that she would miss her talented daughter very much.
In his tribute during her funeral service that was held in Kholera Village, Kakamega, the old man shared with mourners a series of talents that the fallen actress was gifted with aside from acting and singing.
According to him, her daughter was a tailor and would make clothes for her fellow band members for their concerts.
“I have never seen a human being so talented like Winnie. Winnie was a tailor. I didn’t know she would make dresses but when they formed Jukwaa The Band, they used to wear one uniform per day. They would come back at night with her colleagues from their gig and Winnie had a sewing machine. The whole night we couldn’t sleep, because of the sewing machine, her bedroom was next to ours. She was making dresses for all the three of them. I asked Winnie where did you learn to make dresses she said don’t worry I went to school,” he said.
Aside from the tailoring skills, Ndubi was also talented with woodwork.
“She was a furniture maker. Very few women, even if they have that knowledge, would what Winnie used to do, with her own hands. She would make very beautiful beds. The bed that I sleep on in Mombasa was made for me by Winnie using her own hands. The dining table that I use was made by Winnie and many other things,” he said
Bwire Ndubi also helped her mother beautify the interior of her shop with floating shelves after returning from Turkey where she had gone for treatment the first time.
“She told her mother I have seen your shop is very bare and so disorganized, I am going to arrange it. She bought a drill and electric saw and within two days she had made very beautiful shelves in the shop,” her father said.
Another of her talents was baking cakes. Her father said that she would make him fruit cakes with zero sugar.
“I am going to miss my fruit cakes,” he said.
He added that he would join her daughter and colleagues as they sang.
Aside from talent, the deceased actress was a Director in her parents Mombasa-based company.
Bwire lost battle to cancer in September 5, 2024.
