Harambee stars head coach head coach Engin firat has explained his decision to bring back defender Aboud Omar and forward Johana Omondi to the Harambee stars team ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA world cup Qualifiers.

This recall comes despite their previous suspension from the team over heated exchange during preparations for the Four nations tournament in March.

The incident led to their temporary removal from the squad with Firat replacing them with Vincent Mahiga from AFC leopards and Sharrif Musa from Gor Mahia.

However those substitutes have not been recalled back to the squad for the upcoming world cup qualifiers.

Explaining his decision, Firat acknowledged the disciplinary issues but emphasized the player’s understanding of national team standards.

“I was unhappy about their discipline . Nonetheless, they know how to conduct themselves in the national team. I won’t close the door. Now they can show that they deserve to be here,” Firat said.

Aboud has already joined the camp while Johana is expected to arrive in few days to come.

Their return is timely as Kenya gears up for the crucial matches, where by their first match will be Against Burundi on 7th of June followed by this year’s AFCON champion Ivory coast on June 11th.

Harambee stars are in group F which includes Ivory coast, Gabon, Burundi, Gambia and Seychelles. With only the group leader guaranteed to secure a spot for the world cup.
