Emerging stars head coach Ken Odhiambo has revealed the strategy that he deployed in the team’s 2-0 win in the COSAFA cup opener Yesterday against Zambia.

The Kenya’s under 23 beat Zambia at Nelson Mandela stadium in South Africa to go to the top of group B, boosting their chances of reaching the knockout stage.

Gor Mahia’s  Austin Odhiambo gave stars an early lead through a penalty kick at 9th minute before Posta rangers forward Patrick Otieno sealing stars win at the 18th minute.

Speaking after the match, Odhiambo highlighted the strategy used to beat the defending champions who were favorites before the kick off.

”In the first half, we realized their fullbacks were overlapping, leaving spaces behind them. We knew that if we could get the ball behind them faster, we could hurt them and it worked out for us,” he said.

Further, Odhiambo also took time to appreciate the Zambian team and their coach on how the set up for the match and style of play.

”I was impressed with the way Zambia played. They were done but still you could see the way they were passing the ball and the overlapping runs. Their head coach has done a good job,” he added.

Kenya will be back on action on Sunday against Comoros on their second match.
