Evans Kosgei

A man hailing from Elgeyo Marakwet, allegedly ended the life of his wife in a heinous act following online threats he had previously made. The suspect Evans Kosgei,  used his X account, to issue menacing statements directed towards his spouse, even tagging law enforcement authorities(DCI) and prominent media outlets.

Kosgei began narrating his troubles with his wife in a series of tweets on February 11 this year.

According to him, their relationship traces back to their high school days, characterised by a seemingly unbreakable bond that defied familial objections. However, their union was tested when two other individuals, namely Stanley Ndegua and Shadrack Kiprop, entered their lives. Jackline’s involvement with both men escalated, with Shadrack eventually becoming her primary partner.

In a surprising turn of events, Jackline’s father who had disowned her relationship with Evans endorsed her relationship with Shadrack, citing his financial support as a rationale and warned  Evans to refrain from interfering.

This profound betrayal inflicted emotional and psychological wounds upon Evans, who had made significant sacrifices for Jackline’s education and well-being, only to be betrayed in the end. Tragically, on March 9th, Evans carried out a cold-blooded act, resulting in the loss of Jackline’s life, which he then publicized through social media channels.

“My sweetheart you decided to go against all what we promised each other 9 years ago. I had confided in you  I trusted you more than I was trusting my own parents. Only for you to betray me after getting some money. But it’s okay. Let it be a lesson to the rest,” one of his tweets read.

“Rest in peace my love. Am following you back,” he further captioned Jackline’s photo.

The two were blessed with one child.

The matter has raised so many questions among Kenyans, some wondering why no one took action that could have averted the tragedy. Others however defended him saying that they don’t blame him for his actions as he was betrayed.

Security agencies are however yet to issue an official report on the matter.
