Names

TikTok couple and musicians Rapho Clint and Marylinda  have sparked reactions after claiming that they would give their children any cultural names.

In a YouTube Video, Marylinda and Rapho, who are from the Gikuyu and Luo communities respectively, are expecting their first child and they revealed that they have already settled on very unique names.

“It is our own decision. We are not being influenced by anyone, as upcoming parents. This is what we want and what is good for our child,” Marylinda said.

“We decided we are not going to name our kids any cultural name, after someone,” her husband maintained. “We cannot name our children after a parent, grandmother, grand father, any cousin, any uncle, any father, any mother.”

One of the reasons why the arrived the decision is because of the troubles they have gone through in life because of naming. According to them, they want to break generational curses associated with names.

“Each of us has a name that has brought us problems in this life. There is a history with the names. There is no way we would we do his way and not my way, we came to a conclusion we will not do it,” Marylinda explained.”We thought we don’t want to impact on our kids destinies that are gonna affect their future when they want to do something for themselves.”

According to them, they have settled on christian names that have meanings.

“The best way to name your child is naming them after the names in the Bible, because also not all English names are okay. I just think give a child an English that originated from the Bible or that has a good meaning,” Rapho said.

“May you are named after somebody that you never met, maybe they died from a curse, maybe he was a thief, may be he was beaten by a snake, a witch, or hoe, if you are named after such people, spirits are very strong. There are those that don’t settle and will follow the child. Every time you call your child that name, you keep awakening that spirit and it comes to that soul and starts manifesting,” the couple said.,
