Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has supported DP Rigathi Gachagua’s move of not resigning from office and battling his impeachment process to the end.
In an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday night, Kalonzo said that if Gachagua opts to resign, he will face all manner of accusations that are aimed at demeaning his character.
Kalonzo also noted that Kenyans are in solidarity with the second in command because he is facing injustice. The former Vice President noted that it would be unfair for Gachagua to be the only to be send packing yet he sought for office together with the head of state.
“The stage at which this process is now, if he resigns he runs a risk of being charged to demean his character. The population is on the side of the DP not because they love him or anything because they see injustice. Injustice committed to one person even if it is deputy president is injustice to the whole country. His decision to go on until the end of the process is laudable. If I was in his shoes I would go the way at least I have a name to take home with me. You don’t have always to do things in order to please. If he has nothing in his conscience, he should fight on,” Kalonzo said.
Just before his impeachment by the National Assembly, Gachagua vowed to keep fighting to the end of the process.
“I was elected by 7.2 million Kenyans; how dare you suggest I resign without public participation? I have no intention of resigning from this job… I will fight until the end. I will get justice and carry out my duties as DP. Anybody sending me messages to resign is a joker. I have done nothing wrong to Kenyans,” he said.
