President William Ruto has fired all his cabinet secretaries, eliciting mixed reactions among Kenyans.
In his press briefing, President Ruto said that only the Prime Cabinet secretary as well as his his deputy Rigathi Gachagua will remain in the cabinet.
“I have decided to dismiss with immediate effect all cabinet secretaries and attorney general of the Cabinet of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs,” Ruto said.”And of course, the office of the Deputy President is not affected in any way.”
The dissolution of the cabinet is among the many things that Kenyans who took to the streets to protests had been championing for.
The fired CSs include Kithure Kindiki of Interior, Moses Kuria(Public Service), Susan Nakhumicha (Health), Aden Dual(Defence), Alfred Mutua(Tourism), Mithika Linturi(Agriculture) among others.
Kenyans have welcomed the move by the president, including those of the political class.
“Sacking all the Cabinet Secretaries is a solid start,” Edwin Sifuna said.
Others used the opportunity to bash the CSs, getting them to the top of the trending list on X.
“Feeling Jobless with Kithure Kindiki and 99 Others. They will not Believe!” an X user said.
Another wrote,” KENYA on the global MAP. Gen Z push their president William Ruto to fire the entire cabinet. The whole of Africa is going to be on fire, thanks to Kenya. Gone is the arrogance of Moses Kuria, Murkomen, Kithure Kindiki, Adan Duale and Shies Machogu and the WIFI guy.”
“Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi bribed his way out of justice by giving out Kshs 55 million only to lose his job two months later! Mungu sio Kamau,” read a separate comment.
“Hey Moses Kuria, Murkomen and Nakhumicha mnaeza enda Saudi. President William Ruto amewatafutia job huko,” read another comment.
