Vincent Chepkwony, the courageous security guard who was fired for sheltering protesters during the recent anti-finance bill demonstrations, has been reinstated and awarded the highest commendation and recognition for a private security officer in Kenya by the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA).

Chepkwony, who is stationed at Java House on Kimathi Street, showed his extraordinary bravery and selflessness by providing shelter and protecting members of the public from harm during the protests.

Despite facing termination from his job, his actions garnered widespread admiration and support from the public and various human rights organizations.

In a statement, the Private Security Regulatory Authority praised Chepkwony’s heroism, saying,

“Your unwavering commitment, exceptional professionalism, and strict compliance with legal standards have been instrumental in promoting the development of the private security industry in Kenya.”

The regulatory authority emphasized that his courageous actions reflect the highest values of patriotism and dedication to protecting lives.

Chepkwony’s reinstatement comes as a relief to many people who saw his termination as unjust. The public outcry and the advocacy for his cause brings about the importance of recognizing and rewarding acts of bravery and selflessness, especially in the face of difficult situations.

The Private Security Regulatory Authority’s decision to honor Chepkwony sets a precedent in the private security sector, further showing the importance of supporting and acknowledging the critical role security officers play in safeguarding public safety.

Chepkwony’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can make in the face of challenging circumstances. He serves as an example of the few who would risk their job for the greater good of others.

The private Security Regulatory Authority is a government agency that is tasked with the regulation of the private security industry. This is in accordance with section 7 of The Private Regulatory Act No. 13 of 2016.
