The two vocal X influencers, Osama Otero and Gabriel Oguda, are said to have been kidnapped early on Tuesday morning in advance of the planned demonstrations for the same day.

Close family and friends have reported that they were taken from their homes early on Tuesday between two and three in the morning by armed individuals they did not know.

As of the publication of this post, their whereabouts are still unknown.

Together, the pair commands a minimum of 1.3 million devoted followers on the network.

This is one tactic being utilised, according to officials, to diffuse the anticipated demonstrations over the proposed levies.

At least ten individuals, including him, were apprehended on Tuesday, June 25, according to authorities.

“I can confirm that my brother has been taken by unknown gunmen from his house 5 minutes ago,” Zachary Oguda, Gabriel’s brother, tweeted at 2:53 am Tuesday.

“Any tweets coming from Gabriel Oguda were already scheduled. HE ISN’T SAFE.”

The following X users are thought to have been kidnapped: Drey Mwangi, TemperCR7, Franje, Shad, Harriet, Worldsmith, and Hilla254.

After being taken by state officials amid protests from friends and family, a large number of people remain missing.

Nearly simultaneously with Oguda, Osama Otero tweeted about strangers at his house in what seemed to be a coordinated roundup.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) led by President Faith Odhiambo had earlier said told citizens to be careful and to continually share any information that can establish the whereabouts of the kidnapped comrades.

“We call on all members of the public to be extra vigilant at this time. Let us continue to share and communicate any information you may have to establish the whereabouts of our comrades.”

To oppose the proposed taxes, protestors organise marches on different national avenues.

This will happen at the closely guarded vote on the proposals by Parliament members.
