A man suspected of drug trafficking has been arrested with 417 grams of cocaine estimated at Ksh.1.8 million hidden in his shoes on Friday morning.

According to police, 24-year-old Charles Obaga Kavehere was nabbed in a Nairobi-bound bus that was travelling from Moyale.

Anti-narcotic detectives acting on intelligence information intercepted the bus belonging to Score Investment Ltd at Blue post in Thika where they found Kavehere in possession of the drug.

The detectives in cahoots with the Operations Support Unit upon searching the bus found the drug estimated at 1.8 Million hidden in the innersole of his shoes.

Kavehere has however been taken Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for further screening as detectives suspect that he ingested more drugs that he intended to egest upon arrival to his destination.

“The suspect was taken to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for further screening within his person, where detectives established that, besides the 417g estimated at Sh1.8 million, he had swallowed more drugs that he intended to egest at the destination.” DCI report read in part.

He was detained and fed with glucose they wait for the swallowed sachets to come out of his system and further legal procedures.

Kavehere is currently in the custody of JKIA-ANU officers pending egestion of the swallowed sachets and further legal procedures.

This even as cases of drug trafficking increase in the country as traffickers according to police use roads as opposed to airports to carry out their business.
