Ministry of labour on Monday rolled out a free online program that is destined to facilitate youths with skills that will enable them to earn money.
The program named Finya computer Itoe Dollar, is a free online training has been launched due the recent encouragement from President William Ruto to the youths to use technology and available skills to earn them money.
The program is aimed at providing youths with the required knowledge and content that will equip them with skills to help them thrive in the digital economy.
The president has been vocal about online jobs. Last month while opening an ICT hub in Kitale, Ruto said the ICT hubs will help reduce unemployment in the country.
According to him, the digital hubs have already enabled 119,000 youths to access digital jobs. He championed for ‘Finya Kompyuta Upate Dola’ which loosely translates to use the computers to earn cash.
The president also visited Taptengelei village where he pledged to equip the local youth with computers, enabling them to access digital jobs and work for organizations based in the US and get paid.
The Finya computer programme is set to entail a range of modules customized to meet diverse skill levels and interests for the youths. The basic modules include data entry, digital marketing, and virtual assistance while AI for Graphic Design will be featured as an advanced module.
“The objective of the programme is to equip young youths with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for digital jobs to enable smart work and earn an income from the gig and freelancing,” the ministry of labour said.
The programme is scheduled to run from 8am to 5pm, starting from March 4 to 8, 2024. Those who are eligible to apply should be Kenyans aged 18-35 and be proficient in computer skills.
