Police have arrested 3 men who visited Kelvin Kiptum’s home before his demise on Sunday night near Kaptagat forest.

The three were apprehended for further questioning as police work round the clock in a bid to establish whether Kiptum’s tragic death was truly an accident.

The trio were detained at Kaptagat police station but later transferred to the county criminal investigations officer in Elgeyo Marakwet for further probe.

Samson Cheruiyot, the father of Kiptum, had raised concerns about the suspects who  visited his home at his home Chepsamo village Kaptarakwa ward in Keiyo south sub-county.

Cheruiyot positively identified them and  the vehicle that they used was seized, with detectives yet to state whether it would be processed for fingerprints and other evidence according to the matter.

Findings from the police reports show that Kiptum died as a result of road accident. According to OCPD Abdullahi, in  his review he had shown that the sensor of the airbag is normally at the front, and if there was no impact on the front part of the vehicle, the airbags cannot move.

“The impact on the vehicle was on the roof..on top of the car… so that’s why we could not see the airbags out,” Abdullahi said.

“What made us look for the four suspects is the allegation made by the father of the deceased, we never had any prior allegations or report,” said commander Abdullahi Dahir.

The detectives also launched a man hunt for the remaining suspect who is still missing and his whereabouts are not known.

Kiptum and his coach died on the spot after their vehicle veered off the road, hit a tree and landed into a ditch. A woman, identified as Sharon Kosgey, who was in their company survived the accident.

She is expected to help the police with investigations.
