Comedian Eric Omondi was overwhelmed with emotions as he addressed the arrests that he has been put under every time he protests about the high cost of living.
Eric said that he has now been arrested four times illegally yet he is fighting for other Kenyans.
The comedian added that he has always been alone in his demonstrations which are peaceful and no property or businesses have been affected, yet the police have taken him to custody for longer hours without conclusive charges.
“Kenya police force has arrested me 4 times illegally. What I am doing, I am doing it for Kenyans and not me., Things are bad in this country to a point that even civil servants have not be paid,, at the same time electricity is high, there is no unga, there is no health, petroleum is high. My demonstrations have been peaceful and I have always done them alone. No property has ever been destroyed during my demonstration. Nobody has ever been injured during my demonstration. No business has ever been closed during my demonstration. I have even notified the police but they still have gone ahead and arrested me illegally and they take up to 9 hours-11 hours not knowing what to charge me with because there is usually none,” Eric said.
He further said that according to the constitution, he has the right to picket, demonstrate and associate just like any other Kenyan but the police were infringing his rights, adding that the frequent arrests have caused him psychological torture.
He warned the police of what might befell them if they attempt to arrest him again.
“You have tortured me psychologically and I have put my life for this nation. Arrest me one more time and you will regret it you may think you are powerful; because you are the government, put your hands on me one more time, you are not stronger than my God,” he said.
